The “Sabz Andishan” Club
Ferdowsi University holds its student body to be the pillars of any successful activity, and efforts on sustainability are exception. Thus, the “Sabz Andishan” Club formed under the management of the Office of Socio-Cultural and Student affairs as a space for students concerned with environmental issues. Sabz Andishan Club has staged and coordinated the following activities and in the previous year.
• Executive Team, Earth Day
• Organizing the “Redemption of Civilization” Meetings
• Participation in the annual Education showcase
• Screening documentaries on related topics
• Organizing the “Raah e Baadiye” art exhibit
• Participation in freshmen orientation
• Holding weekly meetings to introduce native species to students
The Environment Committee at the Office of Socio-Cultural and Student Affairs
The Environment Committee at the Office of Socio-Cultural and Student Affairs, was established in 2017 to centralized voluntary activities across campus. The committee has attracted students from different faculties and organized students into the following four taskforces: Education and Ceremonies, Waste and Consumption Habit, Transportation, Landscape.
Currently, the committee has set its sights on educating staff and students about native plant species with decorative uses and promoting awareness about the threat goldfish pose on ecosystems.
For its future activities, the committee will focus waste management and waste reduction, with an emphasis on cutting the use of disposable plastic shopping bags on campus.
Is the House Black Panel
Two of Iran’s most well-known environmental influencers, Dr. Esmail Kahrom and Mohamad Darvish addressed the current state of natural conservation in Iran in a panel held at the Faculty of Natural Resources and Environment of the FUM.
The panelists, who were invited by the student branch of FUM’s “Jahad Daneshgahi”, commented on the Iranian government’s environmental performance and plan.
The meeting concluded with a Q&A session where students and faculty shared their concerns about the state of Iran’s habitats.
Kashaf Roud Panel
Kashaf Roud is a river in the North of Mashhad, joining Harir Roud, it forms Tajan and flows into Turkmanistan. In recent years the river has been a focal point of Environmental activities in Mashhad. Pollution by industrial and municipal sewage and land use change are some of the issues that have endangered the health of the river and its surrounding ecosystems.
The “Silence is Our Fault” panel was held to review the issues surrounding Kashaf Roud and approaches to improve the conditions of the river and nearby areas.
Among the invited panelist were the renowned Iranian science educator Dr Esmail Kahrom and the former deputy of the Iranian Department of Environment, Mr. Darvish.
