Green University Model

Green Management in Universities/ Green University

The concept of Green Management entails:

•    Resource management on Campus
•    Cost reduction
•    Waste and waste water reduction
•    Training environmentally responsible students
•    Improving education using new approaches and technologies

A guide to Implementing the Green University System

The Green university approach covers 3 aspects.

First aspect: resource management with the aim of cutting costs in economic, social, and cultural efforts as outlined by Iran’s development plans (from the 3rd to the 6th development plan)
Second aspect: promotion of appropriate behavior using new paperless technologies with the aim of lowering costs and checking direct and indirect environmental impact
Third aspect: educating a generation of students and graduates sensitive to the environmental impact of their actions as the future leaders of the country

First Aspect: Resource Managements

To achieve the first aspects of Green Management, the Green Office System should be established. As stated in the Article 190 of the Fifth Developments Plan, and the Article 66 of the Fourth Development Plan, all executive departments, foundations, institutions and universities are required to implement resource management. Similarities between such organizations enables universities to use the same methods and strategies, formulated as the Green Management Guide/ Checklist. However, the intrinsic differences between universities and other departments lead to the need for a modified framework for institutes of higher education. The goals of this aspect of Green Management include:
•    Cost reduction
•     Lowering waste and waste water production

Second Aspect: Green behavior

The second aspect instructs the education system to operate more efficiently through the use of new technologies. The following topics are important in this aspect:
•    Smart education management
•    Smart classes
•    Content selection
•    Smart tests

Third Aspect: Educating a Green Generation

In the thirds aspect of Green Managements, institutes of higher education try to interact with interest-holders outside the organization to improve internally and positively influence its surrounding community and environment. The following topics will be considered in evaluations:
•    Educational and cultural efforts with an environmental focus
•    Interaction and exchange with interest-holders
•    Communication with related industries
